Fab Friday Finds: Where to buy a Filofax (when you’re in the southern hemisphere!)

It is so wonderful living this side of the equator at times! Australia and New Zealand are breath taking countries with sweeping vistas and a generally great life quality (remember, it is really up to you – MAKE LIFE WHAT YOU WANT IT TO BE!).

One disadvantage is our access to Filofaxes. And Filofaxes at reasonable prices…(Do you feel me A&NZ-ers?!)

Officeworks, FIlofax.com.au, David Jones, Dymocks and Myer all carry ranges which are good to browse, but with an A5 Classic going for AUD$399.95 or an A5 Finsbury available at AUD$199.95, it is a little….hmmm…killer on the wallet!

When I bought my gorgeous A5 Chameleon in Raspberry last year, I trawled all the sites I could find. I knew I would pay a bit as I believe in investing in beautiful tools that inspire me to craft a life I love. Having gorgeous stationery and planner pages make me truly want to use them and I see them as an investment in my productivity, accomplishment and action taking towards my magnificent goals.

I came across several sites who’s prices, even with international shipping, I was happy to pay so I could have a beautiful Filofax to craft my life in.

  • I would always start with Philofaxy’s Adspot to see if there is a folder there that is of interest. Some are well taken-care-of ‘pre-loved’ Filos and others are pretty much new organisers. You can also place ‘Wanted’ Ads for particular harder to find styles and sizes. Plus, you do good in the world by donating to a great cause – Chimwemwe
  • Ebay is of course another site where you can see what is available
  • I bought my lovely Filofax from Montgomery Pens based in the US. Great prices and decent shipping
  • I’ve not personally bought from Pens and Leather, but have heard great things from FIlofax users about it
  • Fishpond.com.au have a decent range, prices and free shipping

Do you have other recommendations? Where do you buy your FIlos from? Leave a comment below and spread the Filofax love!

Life is crafted. Craft yours.

I’ve seen vloggers thank other bloggers/vloggers for selling them their pre-loved Filofaxes. So I guess if there’s enough of a relationship there, one FF “fiend” can, and do, sell directly to another FF “fiend” ;P. Happy Friday!

I ended up buying my first Filofax from the US at Goldspot.com. It took a long time to get here and the shipping worked out more then the planner. However they have more of a range then australian websites.

Hoewever I did order my A5 Finsbury with a 30% sale at Organisershop.com.au – great service arrived within 3 days :)

Hi Rochelle! It’s good to know that there are some good sales at organisershop.com.au and great shipping time! It really is about being aware of what is available and searching for the best offer we can find. Gotta get creative sometimes!

I feel you, Arienne. I fail to comprehend why we have to pay twice the price just because we are in the Southern hemisphere? I have bought from Pens and Leather twice, and they were good. I’ve also used ebay a bit. For my A5 raspberry Chameleon I had to resort to buying it off a seller on Amazon UK marketplace (it was the ONLY one I could find anywhere!) who didn’t ship to Australia, so I had to recruit a friend to receive it and pass it on. I noticed in the news article about Filofax (the company) being sold, that Australia was one of the problem countries. It doesn’t take a genius to understand that it’s because we are being held to ransom if we want to buy locally, when we can get them at half the cost (even with shipping included) overseas.0

Hi Julie :) So right, I don’t get why there has to be such a huge discrepancy…I agree it doesn’t take a genius to see why they may not be doing as well here. I understand we are far away and that transportation may cost a little more to get the goods here but 2-3 times the price of other countries in this global market place just isn’t fair!

Interesting campaign ” Shop Locally -Keep a Friend Employed” I agree with this, but I have no objection in helping to keep a friend employed, I just don;t see why I should have to pay his /her wages as well. When things – including a Filofax – are much cheaper overseas – even paying postage – it’s not easy trying to buy locally. Pens and Leather is generally my choice. And for a real fun time in trying to get anything locally , try living in Northern South Australia :o)

      Hi Edgar,
I really do love to try to shop locally and support local producers and artisans but you’re right, people don’t make it easy for us to do that sometimes! As I’m looking into production and postage my heart does go out to retailers and manufacturers as our infrastructure is not supporting us in the global market. Postage (and what has been going on lately with the price hikes that seem unnecessary!!) for example is not on our side. But putting crazy markups isn’t fair to consumers either. I don’t think it is fair to price for a ‘captive market’ (as the web is showing us, just because we are far away we are not captive anymore!).

Haha and I feel you, it must be hard to find planner related things in Northern SA! I feel I have a hard enough time in SYdney!

This was a big help!!! I was considering ordering overseas via eBay. I was able to order the holborn personal thru a site you mentioned above, on sale, no tax and free shipping. I can’t wait for it to arrive. Thank you for doing the legwork for me. I had almost given up. Hope the company has it in stock.
